The day that wasn't

Today should have been my embryo transfer. I should have had a few good embryos snuggling in my belly here in a few hours.

Should haves that aren't.

Easter Bunny Don't Live Here No More

Yeah, yeah, it's not proper grammar, shoot me. Or better yet, why don't you lend me some of your eggs. Well, not actually lend them, as I won't give them back. Just give 'em to me.

My Easter basket is empty. My egg carton has run out of eggs. I have bacon, eggs needed.

While I haven't yet got the phone call from Dr. Slick or even Battle Axe yet today, I'm assuming that I won't, unless some miracle occurs. But you see, my name isn't Mary, and I won't be carrying a baby that was conceived through immaculate reception (as my Hubby likes to say). If I do ever carry a baby, I'll be using someone else's little eggies, as mine are no where to be found.

Those follicles shown on the little monitor today? Most likely empty. That thin line you saw? My monophasic (or whatever B.S. that spewed from his mouth) uterus that didn't respond either to the meds. I didn't really think that still being on my period was such a bad thing. Well it is, if you're injecting yourself with maximum doses of drugs that should have shut it off right away. I should have had multiple follicles popping out of them there ovaries. I should have. I should have two freaking ovaries that are producing eggs. Good grief, I'm only 37. I'm not ancient. Hell, I'm not even old. But tell that to my good-for-nothing ovaries that are in my abdomen.

I may seem bitter, and I can't lie, I am. But I'm not crying. No, I'll save that for later, although when I was at my acupuncturist's office on Thursday and told him how Dr. Slick didn't like my asking questions, he was very comforting, and actually made me cry a bit. No, I'll save my tears for when the numbness wears off.

Dr. Slick said to take some time, we can discuss options. Hubby says he needs a while to think things over, pray on what we should do. I'll let him. While he's doing that, I'll start researching. Find out exactly what donor eggs will entail, including costs, facilitation, what if any my insurance will pick up, finances, etc. I've got work to do while Hubby thinks things over and prays about it.

We invited his folks to breakfast this morning when we got back into town. After a while, I told them that if we do have kids, they won't be biologically mine. After giving a bit of support, my MIL says that maybe we should just stop for a while, as God tends to give prophets to those women who are barren. Who the hell does she think I am that I am going to get a prophet? I'm not Mary. I'm not Ruth, or Sara, or any of those other ladies who are selfless. I'm Tori. I'm the girl who in college was promiscuous and am now paying for it. I forgot to mention that during the u/s that Dr. Slick tells us for the very first time that my left ovary (you know, the one that likes to hide during all the ultrasounds and is painful to look at??) is connected to the back of my ovary with scar tissue. Gee, thanks for just now telling us this, doc.

So I'm going to have a prophet, huh? Only prophet I'll have is if I can sell my boobs to some chick who has none. That's the profit I'll get.

Once I get over my bitterness and can clear my head a bit, I'll start thinking. I'll start making my plans. I'll start determining if I can use my insurance to my advantage (Nancy, sorry if I gave you sh*t for saying you shouldn't fill your left over prescriptions so you can provide them to someone who doesn't have insurance, as I'm thinking of using it for a donor, if need be). I'll figure this thing out. If there is one thing I am good at, it's figuring things out.

I'll get it done. One way or the other, I'll get it done. It may take a while, but you'll see. I'll get it done.

Didn't even get to Stim Day 4

Son of a @#_#$(*^!&)$%#!$^&()@#_((~@#^.

Guess who called me this afternoon? No, not Nurse Betty. Not even Battle Axe. Can ya guess, huh? Huh? Well, can ya?

Dr. Slick himself.

My E2 levels are even lower today than they were on Monday, my base line test. Monday they were 36. Today they are 28. I asked if being on my period would effect my estrogen and he says absolutely not.

Apparently, I have a bad ovarian reserve problem. I asked about why my FSH numbers have always looked so good. I asked if I were to lose 100 pounds if that would make a difference. He said no, losing weight would not impact my ovarian reserve. He said that my weight could artificially make my FSH numbers look good.

He said that we could cancel today, wait for me to get my period and then do the ovarian reserve index test that cost $350. But he said that we've already done two tests, the two previous stim cycles.

He also said that we could, if I wanted to, up my evening shot of Repronex to 3 vials from the 2 I'm currently injecting, and come in on Saturday and see how my levels look. I'm choosing to do this. I'm not going to be cancelled after two effing days of drugs. Damn it, body, freaking respond already!

I asked him if my numbers still don't look good on Saturday, do we still have options, such as donor egg or donor embryos, and he said yes! So, Hubby is going to have to come in with me on Saturday so that we can discuss our options.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

No copay for me today!

This morning I dragged my butt out of bed so I could get ready and go to get my blood drawn at RMFC. This morning's shot went a bit better, but still need to work on improving it.

I arrived a little bit late because of said shot (had to do two shots as I ran out of medicine in the first cartridge). The vampiress takes me back to do my draw. I don't know if I had a neon flashing sign following me or what, but Battle Axe, Nurse Barbie, another nurse I've not yet named, and someone else I've not seen all come over to say hi and ask how I am. Wow, I must have been the "patient of the morning." They ask how the shots are going and I say that the Follistim shot is giving us some troubles. Battle Axe tells me what Hubby should do, so I said we'd give that a try.

As she was walking away, I called out to her and told her that my period is not just spotting, but a full on period. She had said earlier in the week that as my lining was very thin I should just have spotting. She said that was okay, she liked it. So I guess I'm okay then. lol

As I was walking down the hall to leave, the nurse I haven't named yet called out to me and asked if I were coming to the exam room. I said no, lab only today. She seemed disappointed. I said you just want to look at my va-jay-jay. She laughed.

I went out to the receptionist desk to ask if I had to pay a copay. One of the ladies there said no, since I only had a blood draw. She said that if I would have gone into an exam room, then I'd have a copay. I told her that not-yet-named nurse tried to get me back in there to see my girly parts, but I wouldn't let her. The receptionists both laughed.

You would think that I'd get paid to show off my nether regions rather than having to pay to get them looked at. Perhaps I'm going to the wrong place of business!

AF graced me with her presence today

Woke up this morning, thanks to Sugar whining to go outside, and lo and behold, AF finally showed up. Woohoo! It's about time. But, I think this is really her, not a fake AF, as the doctor thinks happened last month.

The shots are going well. My first lupron shot of the cycle stung and was red. My first follistim shot sucked as Hubby gave it to me. This morning's was a bit better, but he is having a hard time depressing the pen's plunger. We're going to have to work on that. It was to awkward for me to do my own follistim shots in my arms. My boobs are just too big for me to be able to reach around to give the shot, while keeping my arm relaxed.

I think I may have had a "light bulb" moment this morning. I've heard many people call follistim "follisting" and I think I may have figured out why. When you are doing your shot, you wipe off the top of the pen and med cartridge with the alcohol swab. If you don't let it dry and you then stick the little needle in it, the first bit of liquid that goes into your flesh will be that tiny drop of alcohol, thus the sting! So I've been trying to let the alcohol dry on the top of the pen before putting the needle in it.

My weight has been on my mind a lot lately. The last few days I've been trying to eat less. Yesterday, I grabbed a hamburger for lunch but only ate half of it. Last night we went to dinner at Red Lobster. I got grilled chicken with wild rice, asparagus and a Caesar salad. I didn't eat all of the chicken, only one bite of the rice as it was way too salty, two-thirds of my asparagus and all of my salad. I know it's not a huge difference, but I'm hoping it's enough to start with and build upon.

I keep trying to get Hubby to come on walks with me. I think I'll just have to go without him. I'll take Cinnamon with me, as Sugar is just too much to handle on a walk. Hmmm, I think the river walk is calling my name! Here is a good picture of part of the river walk here.

Wake me up before I go, go

to sleep, that is! I can't stop yawning! I drank a diet soda for lunch, so I've got caffeine in me. I'm drinking lots of water. Maybe my lunch was just too heavy. Or maybe the lupron is tiring me out this time. I do have a headache, have a few hot flashes, and now the fatigue. All side effects if I recall correctly.

I can't even go home and take a nap as Hubby's niece's birthday dinner is tonight at 5:30. Gotta beat the rush (only people who rush to eat at that time are the early bird seniors who go to bed at 7:30).

Speaking of birthdays, today is also my nephew's 9th birthday! I can't believe he is that old. I remember going to the hospital the day after he was born and holding him. He was just too cute. My younger sister struggled with deciding whether to put him up for adoption or not. She was going through the Catholic system where she lived and the case worker was "out" the weekend she had him, so it was a matter of either her keeping him for the weekend or him going into foster care until Monday. She opted to keep him for the weekend and wait for the caseworker, and by then the bond was formed. It's been a tough struggle for her, but she's making it and her little guy is a blessing (as well as a little devil! lol).

Still Waiting

I'm still waiting on AF and the phone call. Scratch that! And as I was typing, I got the phone call from Battle Axe saying that I'm good to go to start my stim cycle! Woohoo!!!

Lupron tonight. 10 ml

Follistim in the morning . 375 IU

Repronex tomorrow night. 2 vials

I'm going to start thinking nurturing, growing thoughts. Grow follies. Become plump, my follies. Behave, my follies. Ohh-mmmmmmmm. Ohh-mmmmmmmm.

I'm ready

A week from today I start the next round of stimulants! I’m hoping that this Independence Day will be my last year without children. I want it to become Dependents Day!

I’m ready to start poking myself again. I’m ready to have Hubby pull my pants down and stick it to me, although not quite in the fashion that I’d really like! I’m ready to go in for my stim day 4 check and have them tell me to continue with the shots. I’m ready for them to tell me that I have to take a day off so that they can retrieve my precious bundles of eggs. I’m ready for Hubby to have to watch his little porn DVD so he can contribute his swimmers to the game. I’m ready to face my first time being under. I’m ready to go back and have those plump little embryos put back into my body so that they can grow and thrive and become viable.

I’m ready!

We're back

You know how they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Well, that's not true of Cripple Creek.

Hubby took 2nd place with his Salsa on Saturday. His brother took 3rd place on Sunday. Neither one placed in the green or red chili. They did actually give out nice prizes along with the cash and ribbons marking the occasion.

Hubby made a killing on the slots. By Saturday night, he had given me $1,000 for safe keeping/spend on what I want/mortgage payment. Woohoo! But then on Sunday, we spent $250 of it on a wood statue that had been carved by Thomas Barlow, culinary artist. I know, a culinary artist carving wood? Well, he normally does do ice sculptures, but he did agree to come to Cripple Creek for the wood carving competition. The statue he carved was a six foot tall marine, complete with sword, rifle, and an eagle by his side. No one else had bid on it. I couldn't believe it! We bought it because Hubby's cousin is currently serving over in Afghanistan, his dad was in the service during Viet Nam, and his grandpa was in World War II. We're going to place it in our back yard after we seal it to protect it from the elements.

On the way back today, we stopped at the baby doc's so I could get my Depot-Lupron shot. The nurse took me back, gave me the shot, we talked for a few minutes, then I left. On the way out I stopped to use the restroom as we were going to go do some shopping. We were about a mile or so away from their office when I get a phone call from the nurse, asking me if I could come back as she forgot to test to see if I were pregnant! Can you believe that crap? Ummm hello? Kinda late now, don't ya think? So I go back, barely squeeze out maybe 1/8 teaspoon of pee, then she tests it. Negative, which I didn't have any doubt it would be. But I'm thinking if it were positive, she had just sentenced my baby to birth defects (you can't give Depot-Lupron to pregnant women as it can cause severe birth defects). Stuff would have hit the fan.

It was a good weekend. Unfortunately I do have to go back to work tomorrow. Hubby said I should take the week off so we can go back up to the mountains where it is cool. It's supposed to be around 100 degrees here all week. Yuck.

I should have had a V-8!

Picture me bonking myself on the head! I was supposed to be on vacation today. I had it scheduled. Except I forgot to put it on my calendar at work. My boss asked me why I was at work today, as I was supposed to be on vacation. I said no, just Friday and Monday. He said Nope, today too. I told him I could leave! He said too late, I'm here already.

Which is okay, since I don't really have much to do today anyway. We're leaving tomorrow for a chili cook off up in Cripple Creek. It should be a nice weekend as long as I don't kill Hubby.

I'm having one of those single syllable response times with him right now. Why are men so insensitive sometimes, and other times they are just so responsive and loving? Tuesday he made me so sad and hurt. Yesterday was a yes or no or mm-mm-mm day. Today I'll talk to him again, but can I also smack him around? lol

I got all my meds in yesterday. At first I thought they didn't send me any needles, alcohol swabs or sharps container. They packed it all inside the Styrofoam container with the Follistim. I'm hoping I don't have to order any more meds, but will probably end up ordering some more Follistim. It will be tight, assuming the RE keeps me at 375 IU a day. If he ups me then I will definitely have to order additional Follistim.

If things work out this cycle, a month from today I should have the egg retrieval. Maybe I'll create another ticker like I did the first cycle. Might as well.

We're underway

Yesterday I started the BCPs for this new cycle. Today I've felt cruddy pretty much all day. Headache, tummy upset, loose bowels (sorry for the TMI). I don't know if it's due to the BCPs or if I caught a bug.

I got a call from Battle Axe today that even though she tried her best, she couldn't get the insurance company to authorize the Depot-Lupron. I don't have the right diagnosis for it. In order for me to get it, I have to pay cash.

I called around to three different pharmacies. IVPCare wanted $666.39. Freedom Fertility wanted $683.48. Aetna Specialy Pharmacy wanted $601.46. This is for just one shot. Not a two week supply. ONE shot. So I went with Aetna, since they were cheaper and it's who I get all my drugs from. I will get my box of goodies on Wednesday.

I actually have to go in and have them give me that shot on Monday. Not necessarily looking forward to that.

Assuming this cycle works, I cannot have the ET any sooner than 30 days after the Depot-Lupron shot, otherwise it can cause birth defects. Lovely.

Stim Cycle 3 - new calendar

Man, RMFC moves fast! I already have my new calendar for the next cycle. Dr. Slick does want me to go ahead and have the Depot-Lupron shot, which will be on June 23. That is a shot that they have to give me themselves. Hmmm, I wonder how big that needle is!
  • Start BCPs Sunday night - June 15
  • The Depot-Lupron shot is on June 23
  • Last BCP July 3
  • Blood work & ultrasound on July 7
  • Stims start July 8
  • Make or break date - July 14 (typical appointment that I get cancelled)
  • Possible egg retrieval July 19
  • Possible embryo transfer July 22

I don't know at this time if I'm going to do Lupron twice a day or once a day, since they are having me take the Depot-Lupron shot. I'm assuming Follistim and Repronex shots stay the same dosages.

Anyone want to place bets on how far I get this time? I get a cut of all winnings!
