Stuck plus a PB - ugh!

This morning, I scarfed down my cheese stick and turkey slices breakfast.  Not good.  It got stuck and while I didn't have time to PB, boy did it hurt and there was tons of slime.

Then tonight, prior to a meeting with one of our clients and their employees, they invited us to join them for dinner.  Chicken, mashed potatoes with green chili gravy, corn and salad.  I took two bites of the chicken and a bite of the potatoes and not only was I stuck, but I knew I had to PB.  I excused myself to the restroom where I proceeded to PB into the sink.  Gross.  Finished there, got back to the table, attempted a small bite of my salad.  Yeah, I'm done.  I come up with the excuse that my stomach was in knots due to my speaking to such a large crowd, and I'm able to wrap my leftover dinner for later.  I go to put it in the fridge in their kitchen and PB some more into the kitchen sink.  Thank God that no one was in there to see me.  Big huge globs of slime and salad/chicken coming out.  Yuck!

But, I made it through the presentation, got a round of applause from their employees, and finally go to sit down.  My feet were killing me after standing for two hours and being in my high heels.  Perhaps next time I should wear flats.

I came home and made me a shake as I knew I shouldn't attempt solid food after my day of eating.  And you know what is funny?  I had a Las Vegas roll at a local sushi restaurant for lunch today and had absolutely no problems with it.  Go figure.

No exercise today.  Hoping to get to the gym after tomorrow's meetings.

New breakfast got stuck!

Yesterday evening, I went to the grocery store to stock up on my new breakfast items per the suggestion of my doctor's office. I got slices of deli turkey and ham. I already had cheese sticks and eggs to boil. So I packed my breakfast last night.

This morning, I make myself a little turkey and cheese roll-up. Take two bites and I'm stuck! I don't know if I took too large of bites or if I didn't chew well enough or maybe I have very tight restriction first thing in the morning, but it hurt. And since I was eating in front of the gals who I take break with, and who don't know that I have the band, I quit eating. I didn't want to try any more. So I calmly placed the 1/3 eaten roll-up back in the Ziploc baggy along with the egg I had already peeled, then put them all in my lunch bag. If they noticed that I only ate a small portion, they didn't say anything. Once the stuck feeling passed, I didn't eat anymore as I didn't want to take any chances. I really hope that I don't get hungry this morning.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this before on my blog, but at one of my support group meetings, I had said that I am able to eat bread, pasta and rice with no problems. I don't eat a lot of bread, but I can eat it. My surgeon said that it was because I have one of the newer bands and that they are more forgiving than the older bands. I wonder if that is why I have never PB'd while many of my band readers have. Interesting.

Got stuck - ouch!

Tonight, I baked chicken breasts and sliced sweet potatoes, made some ramen noodles and warmed up some left over zucchini/golden zucchini/corn/onion saute. Everything was going well, until bam! I felt like a brick was stuck sideways in my esophagus! I sat there for a moment, then had to get up, then went to the restroom. I didn't PB, but thought if I were going to, I should at least be near the toilet.

It took about five minutes, but the pain passed. Hubby came in to check on me. This is the first time this has happened. I think it was the ramen noodles. Which is odd, as I had angel hair pasta for lunch today with no problems. Weird.

Maybe my fill is finally kicking in? We'll see.

Cravings, Stuck, Fill, Y

This last week or so, I've been craving chocolate and peanut butter (no, I'm not pregnant). Twice last week in the evening I made a shake using powdered milk, milk, ice, chocolate syrup (the first time) or Carnation instant breakfast mix (the second time), and peanut butter. I'd drink it after dinner and I would share with hubby.

Then on Sunday, I again was craving chocolate and peanut butter, so when I went into the kitchen, I looked on top of the fridge, saw a box of corn flakes that I had used to make some cookies with last month, and decided to make the cookies again.

1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
3 Tbs cocoa powder
1 cup peanut butter
8 cups (or so) of corn flakes

Mix cocoa powder and sugar in medium sauce pan, add corn syrup. Over medium high heat, bring to boil and boil for 1-2 minutes. Turn off heat, add peanut butter, stirring until mixed in. Pour over corn flakes in large bowl, mix well. Turn out into 9x13 baking pan, pat down, then let cool. Cut into 2x2 inch square pieces.

After making this, of course there is some of the mixture stuck to the wooden spoon, so I eat it, not really chewing all that well. Then I see some of the syrup/pb mixture left in the sauce pan, so I scoop it out and eat it, again, not eating it slowly.

I decide I'll just let the cookies cool a bit so I grab my book and go outside to read. Not even five or 10 minutes later, I'm feeling the pain in my back. I can't even sit still for it. I get up, go drink some water, thinking that will help. It doesn't. Then I go lay down for a while. Nope, doesn't help. I google gall bladder pain, nope, not that. Go back and lay down some more. I think it took about two hours before the pain finally subsided.

After the last time I got stuck, the surgeon's office manager said to do liquids as my tummy was probably swollen. Instead of eating dinner, what did I do? Made another shake, this time using both the chocolate syrup and the Carnation instant breakfast mix. Drank about half. Then around 8:30 my head was telling me that I had to eat something, I just can't survive on a shake only. Then I heat up the leftover chicken enchilada that I had for lunch. Ate about 1/3 of the enchilada and start feeling the pain again. My God, what does it take for me to learn a freakin' lesson???

Yesterday I decided that I would only do liquids, at least for breakfast and lunch. I drank for breakfast the second half of the shake I made Sunday evening, then had yogurt and string cheese for lunch. Then I went for a scheduled fill. I didn't tell him about my stuck episode because I didn't want him to not give me a fill. According to their scales, I've lost four pounds from three weeks ago. I told him that my scales had me gaining 0.4 pounds since last week. I told him how I'd been snacking in the evenings and how I seem to be able to eat more. He finally gave me 0.4 ccs.

Afterwards, I went to the YMCA and joined! I didn't work out last night as I didn't have any workout clothes that fit, they're all too big! Hubby and I went to Kmart and bought some t-shirts and Capri-length workout pants. Not sure what they're actually called. Then I went home and tried on my swimsuits. I did find one that still fits, although I'm not sure how long it will, since the bottoms are slightly loose. I will wear a t-shirt with it as I just don't want to be popping out of it during water aerobics and give some poor old man a heart attack!

The Y offers water aerobics and zumba on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the same time, so I'll do the water aerobics on those evenings, then zumba on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, I won't be able to try zumba for at least three weeks, as I have a function at our church this Saturday morning, and then the March of Dimes walk is the following Saturday morning. I'm looking forward to it though.

First time stuck

This morning I chose an underwire bra to wear. It seemed like it was really squeezing my chest and therefore my band. In fact, I left work to go home to change because I was so uncomfortable, almost in pain.

I think I may have actually been slightly stuck. Last week when I went in for my last fill, my doc and staff got after me for still eating yogurt, which they consider to be a slider food. They said if you're not chewing it, then it can slide right through the band, despite the fact that the yogurt I eat is full of protein.

So this weekend I bought some Kashi cereal that is loaded with fiber and protein and started adding it to my yogurt. This morning I had my string cheese followed by the yogurt/cereal. I wasn't even finished eating when I could feel the pain.

I thought it was my underwire bra, so went home and changed. It didn't really help. When I got back to the office, I went and got my water (by this time an hour had passed) and drank a bit. Didn't really help either but I didn't have any come back up (although I didn't drink more than maybe two ounces).

So I call my doctor's office and asked if it were possible if I could be stuck. After talking back and forth, it was decided I could be slightly stuck and it should pass through, although it may take a couple of hours. She said to continue to sip water but to do liquids for a couple of days as I could have irritated it and have some swelling.

Almost an hour later and I was feeling relief. I tried to stand up as much as I could and continued to drink my water.

Bad thing though was that I had a business lunch today and I called the restaurant to see if they had any soup. They didn't. However, because it was a Mexican restaurant (my brother in law's place), they do have green chili, so I thought I might just get a bowl of that and eat the broth only.

I've had my band now for almost 3.5 months and this is new to me. I've been very fortunate and haven't been stuck or PBd. I have slimed during a BM (that because I was almost sick).

I have a feeling that it takes a while for my fills to kick in before I actually feel restriction. Weird.
