This weekend our plan is to host both Mothers at our house. Hubby's mom today and my mom Sunday. We've got steaks for both days, with all the fixings. We even worked our tails off last night to get the house "spic and span."
This morning at 5:06 our phone rings. Even though it is technically morning, for us, it's still the middle of the night. Which means that it is not a good phone call. It is Hubby's mom calling to let us know that his grandfather passed away overnight.
As I was listening to Hubby's side of the conversation, I heard him as "He's missing?" That was in response to his mom saying "Grandpa's gone." Now you have to understand, Hubby and I are not morning people, especially Hubby. He typically goes to bed anywhere between 1:30 - 2:30 at night, so therefore he had only had a few hours sleep so far. His foggy brain thought that Grandpa had walked out of the nursing home he just got moved to this week. Then it sunk it what she meant.
We're still planning for this afternoon's get together with his family, but it will be a somber affair. We've invited his two aunts over as well, as I'm sure they will be hungry after having made the arrangements with the funeral home.
Hubby has a cousin who is over fighting the Afghan war right now. There is a little debate going on whether to tell him (which could distract him with devastating consequences) or not to. And then if we do, do we try to bring him home for the funeral?
Please keep my Hubby's family in your prayers. While we knew his days were numbered, we were hoping that he'd pull through and recover from what was ailing him.
